Q:  So just what is this whole "Bar Tuesdays" thing all about?

A:  Bar Tuesdays was created in the spring of 2007, and was originally intended to be a 14-week
summer tour of the dive bars in our town.  The original motto was "14 Weeks, 14 Bars:  Bar
Tuesdays."  After the 2nd week, we knew we were onto something good.  Bar Tuesdays became
something we all looked forward to, and every week more and more people were coming along.
Now we roll in every week with a Bar Tuesday Posse.  After a few weeks, we decided that we all
wanted to keep this thing going, so after the 14-week original tour ends (and after a Greatest Hits
week), we will be expanding the tour statewide.  Rhode Island may be the smallest state, but it
sure has a large selection of bars to choose from.

Q:  Why dive bars, and what qualifies as a "dive" bar?

A:  First of all, dive bars are awesome.  They are places that people can go and share a pitcher, play
some pool, listen to some tunes on the jukebox, and just relax and be at home with the rest of the
locals.   They're almost comforting in a way.   Little escape-homes for the folks around town.

When choosing bars, we look for a few things, but there are certain qualities that can ensure a bar
a spot on our list, such as:  a questionable reputation, a worn-down or dirty appearance,
mentions in the local Police Log, wood paneling, cheap booze, colorful local characters hanging
outside, meat raffles, Carny folk, etc.   Basically a place that your mother would think twice about
entering.  We don't want chain bars or trendy joints with their $8 drinks - we want dusty floors,
holes in the building, and $1.25 drafts.

Q:  How can I suggest a bar or find out where you are going next so I can join you?

A:  You can leave a comment on any of the Bar Tuesday recaps (your e-mail address will not be
shown on the site, but it will be sent to the recapper) or you can e-mail the recapper directly by
dropping a line to pam at bartuesdays.com.   Come join us!

Q:  Why are the recaps on another site?  And who is this pigtails/sockgirlie person?

A:  That would be me, your Official Bar Tuesday recapper/reporter Pam.  I started recapping our
adventures on my personal blog, not knowing that Bar Tuesdays would become such a thing.  I
ended up keeping the recaps there and just linking to each entry because I can update that site
from anywhere (as opposed to this site, which I can only update from one location and at limited
         times).  Th
e recaps go up much faster this way, so if this site hasn't been updated with the new bar
of the week, you can check www.sockgirlie.com to see if the recap is up there yet.
